A Panorama of London decorative print

☆☆ Now available as a fine art print - click ☞ HERE ☜ ☆☆

This design for a decorative print is an adaptation of my panoramic drawing of London based on the view from the public viewing platform on the 69th floor of the Shard tower (see more details about that project here).

It incorporates annotations pointing to specific landmarks and districts in the distance, an accompanying legend, and a decorative border and title cartouche, all inspired by 17th century panoramic prints. All text is set in Baskerville Regular, Italic and Semibold Italic.

The full panorama, with decorative border, title cartouche, description and building index. The design aesthetic is inspired by engraved print designs from the 17th and 18th century, particularly those by Hollar.
A mockup of the design printed and framed.
Detail of the title cartouche.
Detail of the panorama looking west with the Tate Modern (no. 4) prominent in the centre foreground, the BT Tower (17) in the middle distance and Wembley Stadium (12) in the far distance. All major landmarks are labelled with numbers (which are listed in the index - eighty in total). Other locations such as parks, bridges and areas in the distance are pinpointed with text labels.
Detail of the area immediately to the west of the Shard, showing Southwark Cathedral (7) in the centre foreground, Borough Market just to its left, and the railway bridge that crosses the River Thames to Cannon Street station.
Detail looking north-west towards St. Paul's Cathedral (32), St. Pancras and King's Cross stations (29 and 30), and Hampstead and Highgate in the distance.
Detail looking further north towards the Barbican (45) with Islington beyond, with Alexandra Palace (42) prominent on the horizon.
Detail of London Bridge, immediately to the north of the Shard, and its northern approach from the City of London.
Detail of the centre of the panorama, looking north towards the City of London and the northern suburbs. As this drawing is based on the view as it was in 2013, the "Walkie Talkie" building (20 Fenchurch Street) is shown under construction.
Detail looking north-east across Spitalfields and Whitechapel towards Victoria Park and the Olympic Stadium (68) in the distance.
Detail of the Tower of London (71) and HMS Belfast (72) on opposite sides of the river.
Detail of Tower Bridge and City Hall (78) immediately to the north-east of the Shard.
Detail of the panorama looking east across Wapping and Shadwell towards Canary Wharf and Dagenham in the distance.
